Councilman Bellisario Announces All: I have been advised that St. Tammany Parish has a program called the "Repetitive Loss Program" that is for residents who have two recorded flood claims and have flood insurance. This program is totally voluntary. I am forwarding this to you since you may know someone who unfortunately meets these requirements. It's important that they look into this matter since future grants won't pay 100% of the appraaised value of the home. Residents must apply for this and the process and it could take up to one year or more to complete. The program has two options; 1. You request to elevate your home one foot above base flood elevation (BFL) or 2. Currently, you sell your property to St. Tammany Parish for 100% of it's appraised value of the home. The appraised value is determined by a bona fide real estate appraisal and is for grants thru July 31st. All other grants following this will pay 75% of the fair market value of the home. Your home will be demolished and the property becomes a conservation area. You have to pay 10% of the demolition costs. The funding for this program came from the federal government to the Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) and then to St. Tammany Parish and other parishes in Louisiana. If you know of anyone who has had at least two flood claims, have them contact Butch Badon, St. Tammany Parish at 985-898-3078 prior to July 31, 2008 to determine if they qualify for this program. Thanks, Gene Bellisario
